How to MySpace: 3 Helpful Tips on Making the Best of Your MySpace Profile.

Whether you are just getting started into MySpace or you have been a social networking addict since Friendster or even ICQ (if you don’t know, it’s probably a good thing), making the best of your profile can be beneficial to you and those who frequent your page if you know what you are doing and learn some basic MySpace etiquette...so to speak. So to help you on your MySpace adventures of global domination, I have concocted some helpful tips to get you through as far as you can.

1) Don’t Clutter Your Page:

It’s unfortunate in the MySpace world that people will find a photo they like and then copy and paste it onto their page to “share” with the world. This in itself is not terrible, but then they find another, and another, and so on. But wait, then they realize they can post videos, and then they post 1000 of those on their page, and let’s not forget the abundance of music players. Before long, the page becomes a flea market of junk and flashy gizmos and noises that is worth nothing to anyone else, except to the owner of the page. The page takes forever to load, and for those not fortunate enough to have a top of the line computer, freezes their browsers. Be nice to the unfortunate poor people and keep it simple. The easier it is to navigate your page, the more people will enjoy coming back to it. That is of course if you “like” people coming to your page. If you don’t want friends, then why are you on MySpace?

2) Make It Nice and Cozy:

When you first step into MySpace, your profile is very basic, over time you begin to add content by filling out sections and areas of interest that you deem important. Lately, the newest trend to sweep the MySpace land is designing your page to suit your personality and style. This can be done several ways. One, you can use a layout generator. There are what seems about as many generators as there are profiles on the world wide web, so finding one is not necessarily hard to do. It requires little to no knowledge of HTML or CSS coding and the copy & paste features are your best friend. With generators you can change the color and basic layout of the page.

There is also a second (and possibly third) method to creating a custom page. You can have a professional artist redesign your page the way you want it to look. There are a handful of designers out there, efficient in MySpace design and coding that will make excellent additions to your page. The art of MySpace designs are taking over the social networking trend and businesses, musicians and bands, as well as individuals and celebrities are sprucing up their pages to fit and market themselves in the world of MySpace.

3)Practice Safe MySpace:

Phishing (The act of sending an email or message to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft) was and probably still is one of the most common threats on MySpace and the internet in general. Never give out your username and password to any site, no matter what the reason. MySpace has done a great deal when it comes to alleviating the threats of phishing attacks, but there will always be opportunities for more attacks. If you ever suspect that you might have been a victim of phishing attacks, change your password immediately.

There is much to learn in your MySpace journey, but through time and patience and the occasional browser freeze due to someone else overcrowded profile, you will begin to enjoy that which is MySpace and eventually attend MySpace addiction meetings. Lets hope that it doesn’t get that bad, because it might.
