Today's brides have so many reasons to want to save money. Even with dual incomes, it costs so much money to support a family today. Many brides not only have the goal of having a beautiful wedding, they want to move into a new home or condominium after the wedding. Some brides are getting married for the second time and are merging their two families. These two families often need to find a new home or make other purchases.
Fortunately, brides can save money in a variety of ways. One of the most popular ways to save money is by shopping on eBay and other online auction websites. You can truly find just about anything at online auction websites. Brides can find wedding favors, accessories, bridesmaids' dresses and even their wedding dress! Actually selling wedding dresses on eBay has become quite popular. One man actually sold his wife's wedding dress after their divorce. His funny listing had him wearing the size 12 gown and talking about his troubles with his ex-wife. By the end of the listing, not only had he sold the gown for a good price -- he'd gotten five wedding proposals from single women!
Before bidding on any type of online auction decide exactly how much you are willing to pay for an item. Many times you will be happy to pay much less than you were willing to spend but other times the bidding can get fierce. This might happen if you and several other brides are interested in a particular item that is hard to find. By keeping a budget in mind you wont have any second thoughts about how much money you've spent.
One challenge of shopping online auctions is that you can't closely inspect or try on items first. When buying something like a wedding gown this can be a challenge. Some sellers may offer a return policy if the item wasn't what you expected but with many auctions all sales are final. Either way be sure to check the feedback of the seller and ask any questions about the item and return policy before bidding. Also keep in mind that if you purchase something that you can't use you could always resell it yourself!
Another way to save is by shopping at consignment shops. These stores have been around for years with many specializing in wedding gowns. Check locally or online for consignment shops near you.
A consignment store is a place where you'll find one-of-a-kind items. This can be a great place to find your wedding dress. The only catch? It is a big one to consider: you'll need to find someone to alter your dress for you. Many wedding dress stores offer their own alterations. A consignment store most likely won't. So put the cart before the horse, and actually search for the person to do the alterations before you ever go shopping. A good tailor can take in a dress that is several sizes too large with confidence if they know what they are doing. But someone that is not skilled -- will not be able to manage this task. Having this option means that so many other dresses are a possibility for you while consignment shopping.
Another disadvantage to consignment shopping is that you need to make a decision quickly. The gown you fell in love with yesterday may be gone when you come back for it the next day. Try bringing a family member or friend whose opinion you trust when shopping. Then you will feel confident about your purchase and thrilled with the money you have saved!
But shopping at eBay or at a consignment store can have huge benefits. Your dress can be less than 50% of what you would pay otherwise. If you are willing to be a bit flexible about what type of dress you wear, you'll have plenty of options. This can be a great way for a bride to save money for her wedding.
