Nearly every printer on the market is capable or printing with refilled cartridges but there has been a lot of speculation about whether they work well or could damage your machine.

The manufacturers (who want you to buy their ink of course) warn that refill inkjet cartridges are bad for your printer and might break it, resulting in your warranty becoming invalid. The refill companies disagree and claim that the only difference between the original cartridges and the refilled ones is the price. A refilled cartridge can cost less than 50% of the cost of a new one so you can work out the savings yourself. Some cartridges cost $60 or more. If you do a lot of printing, this could mean you saving a substantial amount of money over time.

Recycling is very popular nowadays and there is no doubt that recycling the cartridges is more environmentally friendly than throwing them out and buying new ones every time. Also, if you have a refill kit handy, it doesn't matter when your cartridge runs out of ink because you can refill it whenever you want. If you use a Dell printer, for example, you have to order the ink from them and then wait around for a few days for it to be shipped to you. Most of us have run out of ink unexpectedly at some point and don't have any spare cartridges.

Refilling a cartridge can be very fiddly and the manufacturers of the printers and deliberately making them more difficult to refill. Sometimes you might get air bubbles forming in the ink which can lead to splotchy printing. If you spill ink when refilling your cartridges, it can be very difficult to remove. Refilling can be very messy, even if you are careful. Don't forget also that if you use refilled ink cartridges and your printer breaks, you might not be covered under your warranty because of it. The worst scenario is that you have to buy a new printer.

So it is up to you whether you want to take the risk. Some people seem to be using refilled ink with no problems and others have problems with it. It depends if you want to give it a try and if you are willing to risk the associated problems to save some money on new ink cartridges.
